The Liberty Brews Traveler series focuses on the continuing craft beer adventures of the Liberty Brew Tours crew as they explore breweries across the world.
Overview
Yes, that’s right. Weasel Boy Brewing. This guy:
Somewhere between Columbus, OH and Wheeling, WV lies the city of Zanesville, OH. During a recent trip from the east coast all the way out to Dayton, we stopped in at Weasel Boy Brewing for some pizza and brews. This turned out to be a great idea ! The pizzas and beer are both made in-house, and the family-friendly space is perfect for both local and visitors.
I did get a chance to ask the owners about the origin of “Weasel Boy”. The name comes from pet ferrets that were referred to by friends as “the weasel boys”, and eventually stuck as the brewery name. It definitely stands out !
The Beer!
I had quite a few sampler brews here. Here are some of my favorites –
Lone Cascade IPA – A great single-hop American IPA that doesn’t get enough appreciation.
Weasel Pawpaw Ale – light and fruity, this beer uses pawpaws. They’re kind of a tropical banana/avocado/papaya, and we’ve only run across a few breweries that make beer with them.
Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout – Winner of both a bronze and gold medal at GABF, this is a lighter, sweeter take on a russian imperial.
Romping Weasel – It sounds like an out of control ferret, but it’s actually a beer. This is a rye-heavy IPA, with heavy bitterness and earthy, bready notes.
Conclusion
We really enjoyed Weasel Boy Brewing – they’ve been making pizza and beer since 2007, and it shows. This is a great spot for both live music and a night out with the family. If you find yourself in Zanesville, stop on in !
